Rebecca Zimmer Huber, MA –

Speech-Language Pathologist / Composer / Vocalist / Cellist

Rebecca Zimmer Huber, M.A. is a licensed speech and language pathologist, and is employed with San Diego Unified School District where she has worked for the past eleven years.  She has worked as a speech language pathologist for 25 years in several school districts, including Newhall School District and Julian School District-Charter Schools.

Before becoming a speech language pathologist, Rebecca sang in numerous studio bands in the Los Angeles area and worked as an entertainer on Norwegian Cruise Lines.  Upon completing her Master’s Degree at California State University, Los Angeles, she began working as a speech language pathologist and raising her three children. During this time, she sang as a cantor, played organ and was a reader in various churches, continuing her work with voice therapy and as a cellist with various groups.  She has sung with the Temecula Valley Master Chorale, Don Morris Singers, and La Jolla Renaissance Singers and is currently the lead vocalist reader and member of the School of Cantors at Holy Angels Byzantine Catholic Church in San Diego.  She is a regular cellist in the pit orchestra for San Diego Junior Theatre at the El Prado Theater in San Diego.  Rebecca is also proud to be a current member of the award-winning San Diego Chorus of the Sweet Adelines, a competitive a capella vocal group.

While working with young children with phonological disorders, Rebecca was inspired to create “Kluster Kidz” for additional therapy materials that could focus on consonant blends and clusters.  Based on current research, targeting these sounds have the most positive impact on a child’s entire phonological system.  Since music has been a large part of her life and children react so strongly to music, Rebecca created a cluster song for each targeted cluster.  This musical story is accompanied by a flip book that provides the visual support for each song.  The flip books can also be used for discussion and creating the child’s own original story.  Along with each story, a game board, flash cards and story creation board can also be used in novel ways for even more fun practice!
